Japanese folk music is not only available on Japan Day!

Mitsune combines traditional Japanese folk music with the wild and innovative sounds of psychedelic, cinematic and ritual music, creating original compositions that breathe new life into old tales. The Berlin quartet around two female shamisen players, complemented by percussion and bass, presents modern folklore full of driving rhythms, raw emotion and extravagant costume design. With its multicultural line-up of musicians from Japan, Australia and Greece, Mitsune has attracted worldwide attention and has been praised by publications such as Rolling Stone and Songlines Magazine ("consistently excellent", "an ensemble with an ocean of potential"). Their album Hazama from 2022 made it into the top 10 of the Transglobal World Music Charts and was nominated for the German Record Critics' Award. A follow-up album is due to be released in 2025.

Good to know: Admission depends on the capacity and filling of the venue. As admission is free, it is not necessary to show a ticket.
