MJ Lenderman is coming to Berlin with his backing band The Wind for an exclusive concert in Germany in 2025.

The songwriter MJ Lenderman was born and raised in Asheville, North Carolina. The anatomy of an MJ record might look something like this: distorted pedal steel guitar and a voice reminiscent of the lonely singing of a choirboy. The songs meander from a lo-fi home recording to something shiny recorded with longtime friends at Drop of Sun studios in Asheville, but the recording environment doesn't seem to matter much - at its core, a Lenderman song sounds true.
There are stories about everything from a relationship falling apart outside the butcher store to a sighting of football star Dan Marino at the local Harris Teeter; from a love song centered around an airport T-shirt kiosk to discomfort over a grill rusting in the rain. And those are just some of the things you can find on his three solo albums: MJ Lenderman (2019), Ghost of Your Guitar Solo (2021) and the acclaimed studio debut Boat Songs (2022). Last year saw the release of his breakthrough album Manning Fireworks (2024), with which he was represented in almost all annual best lists. Since 2020, he has also been guitarist and co-songwriter for Wednesday, and can be heard singing and playing guitar on Waxahatchee's uber-hit Right Back To It.
Lenderman's songwriting is simple and truthful, the stories delivered with a loose, easy vibe - a shrug of the shoulders, unconventional guitar riffs, a tangle of pedal steel and rock 'n' roll distortion culminating in an alt-country cacophony. An MJ Lenderman song feels like a postcard from a hazy memory, the unpredictable bits and details that end up sticking - birdsong from the rafters of a hardware store, a really good Bob Dylan cover - making a story whole.
