Mode trifft Meisterwerke. Der Berliner Salon in der Gemäldegalerie

On the occasion of its 10th anniversary, Der Berliner Salon will present an exclusive group exhibition of young designers at the Gemäldegalerie. The exhibition is curated under the direction of Christiane Arp, CEO of the Fashion Council Germany, in collaboration with the Gemäldegalerie and is one of the highlights of Berlin Fashion Week.

The presentation will showcase a wide range of different designs by 55 designers who are setting new trends in fashion with their work. The Berlin Salon is a renowned platform for promoting up-and-coming talent in the fashion industry and takes place every year during Berlin Fashion Week. It offers young designers the opportunity to present their collections to an international audience. Current positions in German fashion design and high-quality accessories from selected manufacturers are on display.

Staging in the past and present

Cranach, Titian, van Dyck, Reynolds - the Berlin Gemäldegalerie not only has one of the world's most important collections of Old Masters, it also opens up an extraordinarily opulent fashion panorama with its outstanding holdings. The clothing and accessories in the paintings reflect the power, identity and individuality of the people depicted: themes that could hardly be more topical.

The dialog between the fashion designs and the Old Masters reveals numerous references between the present and the past: fashion and art revolve equally around aspects such as representation, self-expression, sexuality and gender roles. The group exhibition thus not only highlights the close links between painting and fashion, but also the contemporary designers' exploration of issues that already played an important role in the painting of past centuries.
