The Monday Night Orchestra Passau was founded in spring 2022 by Roland Penzinger and Michael Beck at the suggestion of Paul Zauner. The idea, born after a concert in the Cafe Museum, was immediately realized and Michael Beck was quickly recruited as musical director. The Mingus Big Band, which is also based in a small club in New York, served as a model. In no time at all, around twenty great musicians were found who, having been slowed down long enough by the coronavirus, were eager to play again. The first three rehearsals took place in a gym in order to comply with social distancing rules and the first concert was played at the Cafe Museum in May 2022. This was followed by seven more highly acclaimed performances at the Cafe Museum and the brilliant opening of the jazz festival in Passau by the end of 2022.
Once a month, on the third Monday, there will still be a concert at 9.00 pm.
