Monday Shorts

In the organizer's words:

To the theater on a Monday night? No question about it! We are looking forward to the continuation of the "Monday Shorts", where artists and employees present specially designed programs on our small but fine stage in the theater restaurant. There is acting and singing, new ensemble members introduce themselves to the Lübeck audience, there are readings, improv shows and quiz evenings as well as quirky performances and stimulating discussion formats. The ever-popular "tastings" also continue to sail under this flag: shortly before our premieres, we invite you to take a look at rehearsals and our directing teams talk about their concepts. And the same applies in future: admission is free!

April

Our Monday Shorts start on 07/04 with a classic taster of "Sonny Boys". On 14/04 they are dedicated to the special performance history of the musical "Cabaret" at Theater Lübeck, from its German premiere in 1971 to the present day. Two presenters, Steffen Kubach and Andreas Hutzel, will be on hand to shed a multifaceted light on the popular play. And two weeks later, sound engineer Christoph Bergmann brings techno back to the theater and shows how sound can be generated from electricity in a variety of ways.

May

In May, the Monday Shorts once again offer a varied program: It starts on 05/05 with the third edition of LUBECCA, MY LOVE, in which Anna-Lena Hitzfeld will once again enter into dialogue with everyday heroes from Lübeck. On 12/05 we will look to Dublin when guest artist Joan Bernzen gives us interesting insights into her theater studies in Ireland. A week later, things get musical: long-time assistant director Johanna Retzer celebrates her farewell with members of the ensemble in a joint concert. The last episode in May on 26/05 focuses on great literature, but also on a dark chapter of German history, when Andreas Hutzel and Rebecca Indermaur address the topic of book burning.

June

To mark her 99th birthday, on 02/06 we will be looking at an icon of pop culture: Marilyn Monroe, with Sven Simon and another surprise guest from the ensemble. The Monday Shorts are also on vacation over the Whitsun weekend and will then return with two tastings in a row: on 16/06 there will be the first of "Das Stillleben", a play by the award-winning contemporary playwright Caren Jeß; the second tasting on 23/06 will give an insight into this year's open-air theater: "Kolumbus oder Die 'Entdeckung' Amerikas". On 30/06, the Monday Shorts will then bid farewell with a very special episode produced in cooperation with the Buddenbrookhaus. As part of the exhibition "My Time. Thomas Mann and Democracy", we are devoting ourselves to the encouraging political thoughts of this famous son of Lübeck.
