Accompanying program to the special exhibition "Fascination Lacquer".

The exhibition "Fascination of Lacquer" impressively demonstrates the centuries-old attraction of Asian culture to Europe. Music in particular was inspired by the traditional soundscapes of China, Japan and Korea early on - in the Baroque and Rococo periods - and the so-called "Chinoiserie" emerged. The trade routes and the Jesuit mission fostered this inspiration, but also encouraged the Asian reception of European musical aesthetics. With works by François Couperin, Jean-Philippe Rameau and Henry Purcell as well as contemporary Asian composers such as the Korean Isang Yun, the concert presents evidence of the early encounter between the Far Eastern and Western worlds. The guest star among the instruments will be a copy of the famous Antwerp Ruckers harpsichord (1640) with its numerous lacquer works "à la chinoise".
