The soul of the Balkans

Sadness and exuberant joie de vivre are not mutually exclusive here. Indeed, when singer Antonija Batinić raises her powerful voice, you can feel both at the same time - and you don't even have to understand the language. The music that the band Mostar Sevdah Reunion is dedicated to is called "Sevdah", also known as "Bosnian blues". With violin, rhythmic guitars and vocal lines that go straight to the heart, the band has been making this traditional folk music of Bosnia and Herzegovina known beyond the borders of their country for years.
