Program:
František Ignác Tůma: Stabat Mater
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Requiem in D minor KV 626
Mozart composed his Requiem in 1791, the last year of his life, which remained unfinished and thus tragically became his own requiem mass. It was commissioned by his widow Constanze and completed by his pupils Joseph Eybler and Franz Xaver Süßmayr. It is also performed in this version under the direction of the Czech baroque specialist and conductor Václav Luks with his Collegium 1704 playing on period instruments and the accompanying choir. The joint interpretations captivate audiences and critics alike by bringing out subtle nuances or unexpected accents that create a pulsating vitality - surprisingly modern and full of emotion at the same time. They precede Mozart's legendary sacred legacy with the "Stabat Mater" by František Ignác Tůma (1704-1774), in which the Bohemian composer masterfully blends old and new styles. With this poignant work, in which the Mother of God sings of her pain for the crucified man, Luks and his ensembles not only reinforce the tragic power of the Requiem, but also remind us of Mozart's close ties to Bohemia.
