The Munich Summer Theatre is a free open-air theater in the English Garden that has been staging classics such as Shakespeare and Molière every July since 1990 - in the middle of the countryside, on a natural stage. "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is currently running (until July 26, 2025, from around 9 pm). Visitors should bring a blanket, picnic and a good mood - donations are welcome and admission is free. In case of rain, the Mohr Villa will be used.
William Shakespeare weaves together four storylines in which people love, dream, dream of love or love in a dream, all in an entertaining Midsummer Night's Dream.
This year's production is directed for the first time by Sebastian Bergau, who was previously a member of the ensemble. He takes over from Ulrike Dissmann, who founded the theater and shaped it for over 35 years. This year's ensemble is made up of established actors and actresses - including David Benito Garcia (Schauburg, among others) - students from Munich drama schools and experienced amateurs.
