ANDRÉ TEBBE BAND
First white paper and a head full of question marks. What next for songwriter André Tebbe after the demise of his indie pop band ER FRANCE in 2016, who at least managed to get their "Sing Song Girl" onto the soundtrack of Fatih Akin's film "Soul Kitchen"? The answer took a while, but when it came, it was as clear as it was simple: write
songs! The rest will follow. After a first step into the public eye with the 2020 EP "Sieg Himmelreich", which was still conceived purely as a studio project, what really needed to happen came: the André Tebbe Band awoke and the mini-album "Manifesto" in 2023 showed what it was all about: rock music (whether you call it indie or something else doesn't matter) that has energy, that wants to be sung along to and whose words combine coolness in sound and depth in meaning. A song perceived by many as life-affirming and spreading a good mood
is the (quite literally!) LOKAL hit "Seifen Horst (Komm, wir geh'n Indie-Disco)", which seems to reveal tragic depth in passing:
(What I no longer see / no longer hurts me
no longer hurts me).
Here, the subordinate clause only shows that funny is not funny. But when you can sing along so beautifully with the painful, it creates a liberating energy and the heavy lines of text lose their weight, not their depth:
We shared the bed, the bread and
the wine / We had the here, the now
Now and the two of us (Danse macabre)
We are awake in a dream / and
united in sleep (Manifesto. Now! Here!)
The intoxication is just beginning / We
are so beautifully naive (Nacktaktiv)
Madness is near / and God
a number (It is not, it was)
In the beginning there was no word, a
silent look / Let's touch colors
colors, picture of happiness (Bild vom
happiness)
