Musica Fiata & La Capella Ducale: "Cantate Domino - Festliche Kantaten"

Two top early music ensembles, Musica Fiata and La Capella Ducale, present festive cantatas by Johann Philipp Krieger under the direction of Roland Wilson.

On the 300th anniversary of the death of the composer Johann Philipp Krieger, the two ensembles Musica Fiata and La Capella Ducale take the opportunity to revive his works and bring them to the ears of today's music lovers. During his lifetime, Krieger was one of the most important composers in Germany. Johann Mattheson described the Nuremberg composer in his lexicon as "greater than other thousands". At the Halle-Weißenfels court, where Krieger was Kapellmeister for a long time, George Frideric Handel and Johann Sebastian Bach got to know him and held him in high esteem. His cantatas were known and loved from southern Germany to Stockholm.

The program presents the wide range of the composer's skills - from magnificent works for large ensembles to expressive, intimate settings of the Song of Songs. Krieger shows himself to be an original composer who is on a par with or even superior to his better-known contemporaries, such as Dietrich Buxtehude and Johann Pachelbel.
