When the important French composer and conductor Pierre Boulez died in 2016, the Austrian Olga Neuwirth remembered her patron in an obituary in Die Zeit - his way of "looking at music in a completely different way". These masterpieces include "Pli selon pli" - which is now preceded by a new work by Neuwirth.

The Graz-born composer has composed her piece for orchestra and electronics and thus for electro-acoustic sounds, which have also always interested Boulez. In 1957, however, he wrote the first version of his five-part work in progress "Pli selon pli" for soprano and orchestra - a sometimes dazzling, sometimes floating sound portrait of the great symbolist poet Stéphane Mallarmé. Under the direction of guest conductor Jonathan Nott, the WDR Symphony Orchestra performs this eternally sparkling diamond of contemporary music.
