In his first 4 published piano sonatas, which were still written in Tsarist Russia, the young Sergei Prokofiev already presents himself as an extremely self-confident, sensitive and equally powerful personality. It is the quasi-romantic pathos which surrounds melody and harmony like a strange shadow. But it is also the desperate memory of unforgotten friendships that confronts the young composer & his listeners with his very own inner daemon. Each work is a milestone in piano music, each moment an expression of powerful emotion. The Afghan concert pianist Nageeb Gardizi plays & tells the stories of this always elegantly dressed young man up close.
