A 16-year-old girl from the English lower classes meets a girl of the same age from better circles who is spending the summer alone in a huge country house. They explore their complicity and fall in love. The romance ends bitterly when the owners arrive and their daughter abruptly changes her behavior.

Pawlikowski tells his magically charged story in a demonstratively timeless way, immersed in the rich, overripe colors of a sensual nature that reflects the souls of the characters. The atmospherically dense music by British trip-hop band Goldfrapp contributes to a dreamlike, enraptured tone that makes the risky search for intensity and crossing boundaries oppressively tangible. An excellently acted youth drama and a wistful ode to the pain of first love.

Flingern-Lichtspiele

The summer open-air movie theater in Flingern. Every Thursday and Saturday in August, we show a total of eight films on the terrace behind the building. The projections start after dark, admission is from 21:00. Folding chairs and deckchairs are available and there is a bar. If it rains, we will show the films indoors. Free admission - donations are welcome.
