See you on April 4, 2025 at the Night of the Libraries! Under the motto "Knowledge. Share. Discover.", libraries all over Germany will shine brightly. With a colorful program of events, workshops, readings and guided tours, we invite all citizens to rediscover their libraries.

On Friday, April 4, 2025, the Night of the Libraries will take place for the first time nationwide.

Under the motto "Knowledge. Share. Discover." small and large libraries, special libraries, public and academic libraries will open their doors on the first Friday evening in April and invite people to discover the wide range of services on offer in libraries.

With the Night of the Libraries, the German Library Association and its 16 state associations want to draw nationwide attention to the wide range of offers and services provided by libraries and invite people to experience their libraries in a new way.

Elke Büdenbender, wife of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, is the patron of the nationwide Night of Libraries. A greeting from Elke Büdenbender can be downloaded here.

The first Night of the Libraries took place in 2005 in North Rhine-Westphalia, organized by the Association of Libraries of North Rhine-Westphalia (vbnw). From year to year, other federal states such as Schleswig-Holstein, Baden-Württemberg as well as libraries from Denmark, Belgium and South Tyrol have participated. At the suggestion of the vbnw, the Night of the Libraries will take place every two years in all 16 federal states from 2025.
