"Lisolo" means to tell stories in Lingala, one of the national languages of the Congo. And Nadège Kusanika has many stories to tell: of her childhood in Congo, of sweet potato leaves and mango with pili pili, of impenetrable fog and endless starry skies, of plastic sandals on eternally dusty earth. But also stories of hunger and poverty, of arriving in a foreign country and growing into German society.
"Under the Same Sun" is a novel that poses poignant questions about home and identity in the everyday experience of being a stranger with gentleness and humor. An impressive novel about family, growing up and the search for one's own self in our global world.
Nadège Kusanika was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo in 1988 and came to Germany at the age of 15. She studied law at the University of Würzburg. During this time, she volunteered in the integration of refugees. In 2022, she received a scholarship from the Bavarian Academy of Writing. She lives with her family near Bonn.
