Prominent jazz sisters

There have already been several prominent pairs of brothers in jazz, such as Julian and Nat Adderley, Julian and Roman Wasserfuhr or Hank, Thad and Elvin Jones. Sisters in jazz have been rather rare, but with the "Jensen Sisters" that has definitely come to an end.

Born in Vancouver in 1966, Ingrid Jensen is one of the most prominent and well-known trumpeters in jazz, as much in demand in New York as she was in 1992 as the youngest professor at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz. Her sister Christine, who is four years younger, has made a name for herself in North America as a composer and arranger following in the footsteps of Gil Evans and Maria Schneider - Canadian journalist Peter Hum wrote in the Ottawa Citizen in 2024: "Every album a must!"

For the NDR Bigband's third subscription concert, these two exceptional musicians are teaming up with two other jazz sisters in spirit, the new NDR Bigband chief conductor Nikki Iles from Great Britain, who has already worked with them, and the Canadian pianist Kris Davis.

The 45-year-old is already regarded in the USA as being on a par with Myra Melford and Geri Allen, and her percussive piano playing is a delightful complement to the Jensens' lyrical style and the power of the NDR Bigband under the direction of Nikki Iles. "Luminescent Landscapes" makes soundscapes shine and ears glow.
