Chamber music: Christmas concert by the brass players of the NDR EO

Christmas classics and more in the Rolf Liebermann Studio: brass players from the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra will perform works by Bach, Reger and Humperdinck on December 16 and 17.

It is a pleasant tradition that the Christmas season is also generally regarded as the time for brass music - a wide variety of literature for the most diverse brass ensembles is available and is cultivated in a special way at Christmas. Once again, the brass section of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra joins this tradition.

Christmas classics and rarely heard pieces

It has always been a matter of course for the NDR brass section to deviate a little from the usual classical repertoire at such performances - and to present the audience with something unusual and rarely heard.

The names of the composers on the new program - Hammerschmidt, Bach, Tchaikovsky, Reger and Humperdinck - already indicate that a broad field of music history is being explored. And once again it is the hour of the arrangers, who transfer the music of more recent and more distant eras to the diverse instruments of a large brass ensemble with stylistic confidence and virtuosity. So you can expect some surprises - but also some classics of the Christmas repertoire.
