NEAL BLACK, from San Antonio, Texas, is the most important American artist on the blues scene today... His music is rooted in the Texas tradition, but NEAL BLACK is not an imitator, he is an innovator. A powerful performer, a gifted songwriter and a transcendent guitarist. NEAL BLACK is one of the hottest talents to emerge from Texas in the last decade...
John Swenson, ROLLLING STONE MAGAZINE
Tasty picking and impressive slide guitar, nice flowing guitar solos, vocally he's in the Tom Waits/Dave Van Ronk range, haunting grooves and textures.
Bruce Iglauer, ALLIGATOR RECORDS
They call him the new king of voodoo blues. Unlike the old king, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, Neal Black is white. He comes from Texas and plays high-voltage boogie guitar, but has also studied with jazz giants such as Herb Ellis and Barney Kessel. Perhaps his best-known song is "Jesus or Johnny Walker", which he performs with a horse growl reminiscent of Blind Willie Johnson, the greatest of Texas gospel shouters.
