In the organizer's words:

"At its core, dance is a democratic act. It holds an unspoken intelligence in terms of self-expression and community. We don't all have to speak the same language, but we can be in the same space and find common ground within a few minutes, no matter how different we are. In my eyes, that's a beautiful metaphor for society."
Emily Molnar, Artistic Director NDT

The Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) is one of the world's leading contemporary dance companies and has been directed by Emily Molnar since the 2020-2021 season. The ensemble is based in The Hague and inspires international audiences in Europe, America, Asia and Australia. Since its foundation in 1959, the NDT has found its own path in the modern dance scene. Choreographers such as Glen Tetley and Hans van Manen have had a significant artistic influence on the company. Thanks to its non-conformist, progressive productions, the NDT has become an integral part of the national and international dance scene.
With its performances, the NDT aims to broaden the audience's horizons and open people's hearts to the unknown in order to gain new perspectives on the world. As outstanding representatives of contemporary dance, the ensemble also sees it as its duty to champion diversity and promote inclusion.
NDT 2 acts as an extension of the NDT. It offers young, up-and-coming artists an exclusive space to develop through collaboration with established dance makers such as Alexander Ekman, Dimo Milev, Johan Inger, Marco Goecke, Marina Mascarell and many others.
At the guest performance in Ludwigshafen, NDT 2 will present three choreographies by Marcos Morau, Botis Seva and Johan Inger. Folkå in Marcos Morau's special aesthetic tells an impressive story about community and its customs and traditions. Botis Seva's expressive new work focuses on the unconscious. As the new voice of NDT, Seva is at home in hip-hop, physical theater and contemporary dance. He plays with form, structure and theatricality and is characterized by an emotional language of movement.
Walking Mad is inspired by an old television recording of a famous conductor conducting the Bolero at an increasingly fast pace. Johan Inger's choreography moves through various stages between madness and violence, adapting to the frenzied tempo of the score. Walking Mad shows us the complicated relationships between men and women and within ourselves.
At the center of the choreography is a moving wall that illustrates the boundaries we create in our relationships and in our minds. The wall is a symbol of the fragile barrier between sanity and madness. Originally created in 2001 for the dancers of NDT 1, the piece has now been transferred to the junior company NDT 2.
