The musical avant-garde of the last 70 years has not only provoked a tremendous expansion of timbres, rhythms and formal ideas - it has also expanded the percussion repertoire enormously and, as a result, the activity profile of all musicians, who are increasingly not only making music but also performing. How exciting and entertaining it can be when musicians do not do what is traditionally expected of them - the concert gives a diverse and varied impression of this.
