The work of photographer August Sander (1876 - 1964) has had a significant influence on the history of photography and art. His pictures portrayed the Weimar Republic like no other. In his film, Reiner Holzemer focuses not only on Sander's photographic work but also on his biography.
Objectively new - the photographer August Sander interpreted the classic subject of portraits from 1925 onwards in his artistic work "People of the 20th Century", arranged in seven groups according to social class and profession, with around 600 people from all walks of life posing according to their own ideas.
Prof. Dr. Claude W. Sui, Director of the Forum Internationale Photographie at the Reiss-Engelhorn-Museen, introduces the work of August Sander and the rem exhibition "Objectively New - Photographs by August Sander, Albert Renger-Patzsch & Robert Häusser".
