NEUNUNDNEUNZIG fall into the "phenomenon" category. Without any real public presence, the group from Austria has developed from a well-guarded underground insider tip to an up-and-coming indie act in 2022.

In noisy Super 8 music videos, the people behind the pseudonyms Nicki Papa, Saiya Tiaw, Danzinger 99 and Amandus 99 appear only dimly, their voices flitting delicately over washed-out synth productions. The debut album "99 in dein Herz", released in spring 2022, collects hopelessly romantic fragments of lovesickness and excess in a merciless world; it combines autotune with coldwave and trance, analogue nostalgia with digitized modernism.

Ilja Danzinger and Leonidas Braith - the names of the two musicians behind the Nine - have already rolled out a whole range of characters around this first joint album in the first two years of their DIY career. The cinematographically staged figures of Nicki Papa and Saiya Tiaw are juxtaposed with the inquisitive personalities of Amandus 99 and Danzinger 99, who play with the necessity of context in a completely contemporary way and without regard for old formats or established boundaries, only to vanish into thin air again after a presentation of their disorder.

The public is already immersed in this hazy world, which is carefully put together according to its own rules. After a handful of support shows for Germany's post-punk favourite Edwin Rosen, NEUNUNDNEUNZIG have already completely sold out their first self-organized club tour. Because on stage, all parts of NEUNUNDNEUNZIG's production come together in a shared experience. The five narrative strands, which they bundle under their own label NEUNUNDNEUNZIG99, merge into a coherent pop show.
