New Wave
Elizabeth Ai / USA / 2024 / 88 min. / German premiere

New Wave shows the rise of the music genre in the 1980s. Director Elizabeth Ai takes a personal look back at her own past, combined with the soundtrack of the era. As a young mother, the Vietnamese-American filmmaker reflects on her childhood spent with her aunt and her difficult relationship with her own mother. Together with singer Lynda Trang Đài and DJ Ian Nguyen "DJ BPM", Ai immerses herself in the nostalgia of New Wave music and combines her personal story with the vibrant sounds of the genre.

The screening will take place at DASHI Canteen, which has been delighting guests on the banks of the Spree since August 2024. This modern Asian restaurant not only offers first-class food, but also a breathtaking terrace by the river. Founded by the successful DASHI duo Thao Westphal and Thu Thuy Pham, DASHI Canteen brings a vibrant, contemporary twist to traditional Asian dishes. Afterwards, enjoy a night of music and socializing with a selection of songs personally curated by Ai.
