The Nagai/Huebner/Takeshi trio is a long-standing collaboration between three established New York musicians and improvisers. They have performed together at New York institutions such as Spectrum, Shape Shifter Lab, Scholes Studio, National Sawdust and the Progressive Chamber Music Festival.
The three instrumentalists on violin, piano and percussion, combined with electronic effects, create a new sound through a mixture of composed scores, improvisation and sound painting.
Between all styles of music there is a delicate balance between the prescribed material and spontaneity.
Even a highly complicated original written down with the utmost precision requires the emotion and energy of the artist to give the composition breath and space in concert. The smallest musical impulse can enliven a composition and lift it to a higher level. Nagai/Huebner/Takeshi move in this mystical musical gray area with their trio and follow an unmistakably clear path. Starting from a traditional model, they redefine and reshape the existing as it could be. All three see themselves as composers and instrumentalists. Nagai/Huebner/Satoshi take the given material very seriously, but are prepared to improvise impulsively, forgetting everything for the moment and allowing intuition to take precedence.
A guest performance by the NHT Trio.
