Anke Glasmacher reads from her new book of poetry "Zur Stunde Blau".

I think: so blue. Colors have been a concept in poetry for centuries. They symbolize longing, transience, death, but also knowledge and change. The color blue also belongs in this canon. In Romanticism, the blue flower stood for love and longing. In Japan, a blue rose is given out at weddings as a sign of fulfilled love. A blue rose is genetically modified, it does not occur in nature. It is a construct. The color blue has survived the ages as a symbol and is a constant in poetry. Georg Trakl, Georg Heym, Else Lasker-Schüler and Hilde Domin wrote about a world that seems to resemble today's: war, inside and outside. Blue is thus also a term for an inner helplessness, the attempt to reorganize language when language as an agreement has reached its ultimate end. At a time when reality no longer counts for anything, but is blurred by the media and "alternative facts" take over the discourse.
