Doris Konradi Doris Konradi reads from Die Hühneresserin as part of the Cologne Summer of Literature at NIMM PLATZ
The stories in the volume Die Hühneresserin (The Chicken Eater) deal with the search for identity and the conditions of human togetherness, as a couple, in the family or with friends. The unconventional characters are touching. They pursue their concerns with unusual means, in everyday life and in major decision-making moments. In Beautiful Pigs, Lucy fasts for the beauty of the earth, Marli grows a beard to the irritation of her boyfriend, and Knut doesn't understand why Katharina eats the chickens she breeds without restraint. And who is Lula, who comes and goes, and nobody in the family wants to miss a single moment with her?
