Mohsen Banaie reads from Israel in Iranian as part of the Cologne Summer of Literature at NIMM PLATZ

"What do you think about us traveling to Israel?" - This seemingly simple question marks the beginning of a journey that touches an old wound and at the same time opens up new ways of understanding. Israel in Iranian is more than just a travelogue. It is the honest record of an inner and outer movement - from the ideological heritage of an Iranian youth to the narrowness of prejudices and the surprising encounter with a country that was considered an enemy for decades.

Mohsen Banaie combines autobiographical experiences with historical depth, tells of the Jewish-Iranian connection between Kyros and the Wailing Wall, of language spaces, identity and the power of personal insight.

His reading is an invitation to take a seat - on the Neumarkt, in the heart of the city, and perhaps also in your own mind. Against the power of enemy images, for the possibility of a new perspective.
