Thomas Empl reads from Inner Trembling (short stories)

"Inner trembling instead of drunken Zen" - in his stories, Thomas Empl takes you to a pre-apocalyptic Cologne that often seems gloomy and broken, but then again full of warmth and humor. We follow a drinker who doesn't drink through the Klettenberg Plastic Rain, into pubs and once up and down Luxemburger Strasse.

"The political looms like a fine mist in these stories (...) In Inneres Zittern, nostalgic Weltschmerz always carries its own questionability, and at this point the characters stand up and take responsibility for themselves, for their melancholy, for their existence in loneliness and in precarious working conditions." Inneres Zittern is Thomas Empl's second collection of stories, following Ausbruch (2021), both published by Cologne-based publisher parasitenpresse. Empl received the Dieter Wellershoff Scholarship from the City of Cologne in 2023 for his work on Inneres Zittern .
