NO DEMORAVE ON DEAD WORKERS

In the organizer's words:

The Westfield Center is due to open on April 8. More than 100 construction workers are calling on April 8 at 3:30 pm to remember their colleagues who have died and to draw attention to the poor working conditions.

Five workers were killed during the construction of the "Westfield" shopping center in HafenCity. A collapsed scaffold buried them; four died immediately, another later in hospital. The men were apparently working illegally on the construction site without health and social insurance. According to "Spiegel", false identities were even used.

Despite contractual requirements, the operator Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield rejects any responsibility and refers to subcontractors. There are also reports of other serious safety deficiencies: falling objects, lack of safeguards, electric shocks.

April 8 is not the time or the setting to call for a demorave. Let us protest and commemorate together.
