For six years, from the wild 1920s to the early 1930s, he played in the on-board jazz band on the ocean liner "Virginian" with the best pianist of all time and experienced incredible things. Tim tells us about his friend with the strange name Danny Boodman T.D. Lemon Novecento and their adventures together on the waves of a stormy era.

In comic and tragic episodes, we meet the crew and passengers, from the spoiled rich from first class to the hopeful emigrants on the lower deck. And we get closer to the deep secret of the ocean pianist. For legend has it that Novecento was found on the ship as an orphan and never left the ship for the rest of his life, creating his unique sounds from the fates of the people who touched him at sea.

Alessandro Baricco's monologue, published in 1994, became a worldwide success as a play and book and was filmed in 1998 by Giuseppe Tornatore with music by Ennio Morricone.

Now The Ocean Pianist is coming to the Hofspielhaus in a new production with actor and musician Henry Arnold.
