As the wild boar and fox watch the mayfly hatch, they suspect that it would be smarter to make a quick getaway. But they don't... and the little fly is so adorable that they immediately make friends with it and even fall a little in love with it. And now the big question is: will they tell the newly hatched fly, who thinks she is a mayfly, the truth - namely that she is a mayfly and that her lifespan can be deduced from her name? Wild boar and fox resort to a white lie. They tell the mayfly that the fox will not survive today, which is why they are so sad. The young, pretty fly is genuinely moved and doesn't hesitate for long: then the fox's whole life must be included in this one day - a whole long life including great happiness! At last she learns the truth that her own lifetime is so short and that her friends wanted to give her the best possible life. Her disappointment at this lie gives way to great gratitude and she ends her one-day life fulfilled and happy.

The adventure of these three unlikely friends poses the big question of how to deal with imminent death - and celebrates life in all its facets. A funny, touching and hopeful story about friendship and the courage to live every day as if it were the last.
