When Ocean Alley released their first big hit in 2018, they knew it would be a success. Indeed, "Confidence" contains everything that makes the rock band one of Australia's most exciting musical exports. There's that funky bass line, the psychedelic echoing effects guitar, the relaxed rhythm and the laid-back voice of singer Baden Donegal. The title of the album fits perfectly: "Chiaroscura" describes the dramatic contrasts of light and dark in Renaissance painting, which is also reflected in the band's sound when translated into music. Since then, the guys from near Sydney have taken the world by storm with their dynamic live performances, infectious melodies and impeccable musicianship. Each of their four albums to date - most recently "Low Altitude Living" was released in 2022 - has entered the domestic charts, the songs have been streamed more than 800 million times and "Confidence" has been certified ten times platinum. But that doesn't have to be the end of it: Thanks to a TikTok trend, the track has entered the charts again in Australia and for the first time in the USA. The band is appropriately happy about this, but relatively relaxed, and after a twelve-month world tour including major festivals such as Sziget and Reading & Leeds, they first went to the beach to surf a wave or two. Because Ocean Alley's self-confidence comes from sources other than sales figures. What makes Donegal and his cohorts - Angus Goodwin (guitar), Mitch Galbraith (guitar), Lach Galbraith (keyboards/vocals), Nic Blom (bass) and Tom O'Brien (drums) - so compelling is their dedication to their craft on the one hand, while on the other, driven by a genuine passion, they continue to explore the music creatively. In any case, Ocean Alley have now confirmed that they will be back on the road again this year and will be joining us on tour again in September.
