(Women's) quotas are regularly at the center of heated debates. They are a prominent example of "affirmative action". These are measures that aim to compensate for the disadvantage of certain groups by granting them advantages and are used particularly in the education or employment context. The aim of such measures is to promote equal opportunities and diversity. Why do people have such different opinions on this topic? Who is for it, who is against it and what does this mean for the introduction of such measures? Under what circumstances can they be successful and when are they counterproductive? Prof. Hannah Schildberg-Hörisch (Heinrich Heine University) will address these questions in her lecture, drawing on the results of current economic research projects.
