OFF CHURCH DIALOG - Lucien Deprijck

The OFF CHURCH DIALOG reading series - the "original format" of the OFF CHURCH project - is back. And with it, the (read aloud) literature as part of the OFF CHURCH series in the Oberbilker Christuskirche, Kruppstraße 11, in Düsseldorf.

Sven-André Dreyer will be welcoming the Belgian author of Flemish origin, Lucien Deprijck, as a guest. Deprijck has lived in Germany since his childhood and, after studying German, English and political philosophy, worked as a journalist and lecturer in adult education in the 1980s, but increasingly shifted his focus to literature. Over time, he made a name for himself as a translator and editor (including Mark Twain, Robert Louis Stevenson, Stephen Crane) and became known as an author with "Die Inseln, auf denen ich strande" (narrative variations on the Robinsonade) and the novel "Ein letzter Tag Unendlichkeit" (about the Lake Zurich voyage of the poet Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock). "Das kommende Leben", a book about new beginnings in a foreign country, sheds light on many facets of migration based on intensive research. Most recently, the novel "God in the Days of Creation" was published. In 2017, he was a guest author at the International Literature Festival Berlin (ilb).

With a new concept, presenter Sven-André Dreyer meets authors four times a year in the Christuskirche to chat with them, listen to new texts and let the audience share in the joy of literature - in a low-threshold, entertaining and informal way. As in his previously curated and moderated Düsseldorf reading formats, such as "Lesen in der KLAUSE" (2005 - 2013) and "Lies, Du Sau!" (2013 - 2015), the discussion with the invited guest authors is the focus of the evening. "In this way," Dreyer is certain, "the audience not only gets to know the invited guests, but also the background to the literature presented in an undisguised way." And it should be one thing above all: fun. And make it clear that literature does not belong in an ivory tower, but with the people.
