Ohnmacht und Aufbegehren. Queere Menschen 1933 bis 1969 | Queer-historische Stadtführung für 14- bis 25-Jährige

In the organizer's words:

QUEERHISTORYMONTH

QueerHistoryMonth will take place in Hamburg from May 1 to 31, 2025 (www.queerhistoryhamburg.de). Various events during the festival will bring the history(ies) of the queer community in Hamburg to life. Everyone is welcome - kings, queers, queens, allies, friends, families (of choice) and everyone in between and beyond!

EVENT

Queer-historical city tour for young people aged 14 to 25 in cooperation with the JungLesbenZentrum and mhc. The event is free of charge.

In recent decades, the legal and social situation of queer people in Germany has changed considerably. There is also a queer history in your city. This city tour invites young people between the ages of 14 and 25 to learn more about their own stories and to engage with the struggles and achievements of the queer community in Hamburg over the last 100 years. The city tour is also a preparation for the workshop series "Holy Homophobia?!", in which we take a critical look at the connection between queerness and religion.

What you can expect

Under §175, (criminal) persecution, discrimination and disenfranchisement were everyday challenges for same-sex desiring and gender non-conforming people. At the same time - or perhaps precisely because of this - courageous individuals and groups repeatedly created spaces and opportunities to enable community. During this time, pubs, magazines, dance cafés, cultural events, but also parks, Hamburg's city center around Jungfernstieg and other public spaces played a central role in the cohesion of the community.

Together we will explore the eventful and multi-layered queer history of Hamburg Neustadt with a focus on the period between 1933 and 1969, incorporating current research findings and discussing queer-historical and queer-feminist theories. We will go in search of traces and learn about events, places and personalities that have made an important contribution to queer (survival) life and the struggle for equality in Hamburg.
