Oklou

In the organizer's words:

Oklou's debut album was finally released on February 7. Born in 1993 and living in Paris, Marylou Mayniel has not only made a name for herself in well-informed circles over the last ten years under her artist name Oklou, but is now finally presenting herself for the first time on album length. "choke enough" is the name of the record, which comprises 13 songs and is a spacy, emotional, atmospheric journey into the future of pop music - from the floatingly beautiful opener "endless" to the already familiar singles "family and friends" and "take me by the hand" with Bladee.

Oklou himself says of the record: "'choke enough' is a very intense album. It takes many directions, shifting from tentative to unpredictable, reflecting the last few years I've spent on this planet, where my heart and my conscience had temporarily drifted away from myself."

It was indeed a long but creatively fruitful road to "choke enough". Back in 2014, Oklou released his debut EP "Avril" with the single "Chrysalis", which from today's perspective sounds almost like a dreampop version of the Charli XCXs "Brat" sound. In 2015, Oklou moved to Paris, founded the female DJ collective TGAF (These Girls Are on Fiyah) with others, produced, sang, acted - and repeatedly released strong singles or was a guest vocalist for musician friends.
Oklou will be coming to Berlin for a guest performance at the end of February. Oklou will now return to Germany for two more major shows in December to perform "choke enough" and other songs from her oeuvre live.
