"Contemporary History of Ukraine #18" is an installation by Ukrainian filmmaker Oksana Kazmina in the current exhibition "Land(e)scapes. Recognizing Fragmentarity" (until 14 December 2024). It is one episode in a series of film projects and events in which Kazmina repeatedly remixes her film material and places it in new contexts. This event also marks the end of the 18th episode and this exhibition. Various elements of the installation will be thematized in a live video montage. These include 13 second-hand items of clothing that Kazmina bought in various places in Ukraine. As at the opening of the exhibition, they will be presented in a fashion show. Further images and elements will appear in the video montage.
Finally, all the garments will be auctioned off as art objects. The proceeds will benefit the projects of Freefilmers. This is a collective of filmmakers and artists that was originally founded in Mariupol and supports people severely affected by the war in eastern Ukraine in various ways.
