As part of this year's onCe Festival for Instant Composition, two performances by renowned artists will be shown every evening for one week. The program allows the long-standing tradition of dance improvisation, for which Freiburg is internationally renowned, to blossom.

Con-tatto: the aesthetics of dance improvisation What is the aesthetic meaning of improvisation in dance? Based on Aesthetics of Improvisation (Brill 2022), Alessandro Bertinetto argues that improvisation in dance represents a particular artistic grammar of contingency based on the interplay of space and movement. The danced gesture embodies an aesthetic of contact and tact.

Intuitive composing guides the creative flow while capturing the magic of the moment.

Con-tatto: the aesthetics of dance improvisation
What is the aesthetic sense of improvisation in dance? Drawing on Aesthetics of Improvisation (Brill 2022), I argue that dance improvisation forms a unique artistic grammar of contingency, rooted in the interplay of spaces and moving bodies. The danced gesture embodies a distinct aesthetic of contact, expressing a refined sense of touch and tact.

About:
Alessandro Bertinetto is a full Professor of Aesthetics at the University of Turin, where he also teaches Philosophy of Music. He is also Director of the Research Center ART (Aesthetics Research Torino) and Chair of the Philosophy Degree Program in Turin.

"The Accomplices" are a team of freelance professional artists - performance, dance, choreography, who have performed numerous Instant Compositions in various constellations at different locations since 2022 under the direction of Lilo Stahl.
