Dire Straits were a band of superlatives. Instantly recognizable with Mark Knopfler's distinctive guitar playing and deep voice, they rose from small bar gigs to the biggest stages on the planet in just under a decade. As the antithesis of punk rock, which was popular at the time, the always clammy ("Dire Straits") musicians with their many musical influences only led a brief niche existence until they developed into one of the most famous and successful bands in music history in record time, selling over 120 million records during their career. With "Sultans of Swing", they achieved their breakthrough at the end of the 70s and put Mark Knopfler in the spotlight as a singer, composer and, above all, guitarist. The group reached its zenith in the mid-eighties with the song "Money For Nothing", a collaboration with "Geordie" compatriot Sting, but the success and the great pressure of expectation demanded too high a price from the musicians involved. After the success of the final album "On Every Street" (38x platinum worldwide) and the world tour of the same name from 1991-1992 with a total of 229 concerts, Mark Knopfler announced in 1995 that the band would be inactive from then on and would no longer play public concerts.Now, 30 years later, this final phase is the focus of the tribute show "One Night of Dire Straits", in which guitarist and singer Alex Moll and his exquisite band of live and studio musicians take the audience on a journey full of fascinating and handmade music. Moll has studied Knopfler's music and guitar playing since his youth and his band is made up exclusively of companions who have Dire Straits in their blood just as much as he does. Moll not only succeeds in eliciting the same sounds from his guitar for which Mark Knopfler became world-famous, but also in raising the energy and joy of playing of the nine-piece band to the level of the original, and with a song selection that leaves nothing to be desired, "One Night of Dire Straits" guarantees an outstanding concert evening for all fans of Mark Knopfler, Dire Straits and handmade music that is instantly catchy.
