Open-Air-Kino: UMSTONST&DRAUßEN Machinima Special: GRAND THEFT HAMLET (OMU) + KINDERFILM

The art of making films in video games is almost as old as the 3D worlds themselves. Machinimas (an artificial word made up of machine and cinema) have long been an integral part of video game culture. In August, we are bringing two outstanding works of this special film form to our open-air cinema!

GRAND THEFT HAMLET follows three British actors as they attempt to perform Shakespeare's Hamlet in the online world of GTA V during the pandemic. Roles have to be cast, locations found and sequences rehearsed. And all this in an environment that is not really made for theater. A touching film about art, crises and creativity in virtual space.

KINDERFILM by the collective Total Refusal takes a different look at the world of GTA V: the short film poses the radical question of why certain social groups are missing in this virtual world. An inspiring film that shows what is possible with the help of modding.
