Opening von 2 Tonnen Kalkstein - Neubetrachtung des Denkmals am Markt

With a performance by Susanne Schuda at the opening at 6 pm.

The focus is on a soldier's memorial from 1926, which is located near the IDEAL art space on Neustädter Markt. The exhibition opens the conversation about the historical significance of the memorial between the two world wars as well as its relevance and impact today. The monument, which was originally erected to commemorate the fallen of the First World War, is today the scene of controversial debates. Looking beyond the memorial: what canon of remembrance is enshrined in the city and what could an urban politics of remembrance look like that reflects the multi-layered heritage of our pluralistic society? With an ongoing program and discussion forums, the project pursues the concrete question of how to deal with the monument in the future.
