in a class of its own since 1978

Originally created as a thank you from the then Lord Mayor Dr. Walter Wallmann to the residents of Opernplatz, the festival has developed into one of the city's most outstanding events.

These thanks went to the patient people who endured the years of inconvenience caused by the construction work surrounding the rebuilding of the Alte Oper. From the modest Lucae Fountain Festival, which celebrated the completion of the fountain of the same name, it grew into a large-scale urban spectacle known as the Opera Square Festival.

Over the years, the Opernplatzfest has evolved into an event that reflects the unique combination of tradition and modernity that characterizes Frankfurt. It is the only event of its kind on Opernplatz, which makes it an exclusive highlight in the events calendar. The combination of historical significance and contemporary staging with dancing, music and culinary delights attracts thousands of visitors every year. The festival celebrates the cultural diversity and quality awareness of the city and is a symbol of Frankfurt's joie de vivre and openness.

The Opernplatzfest not only brings together people from different cultures and generations, but also serves as a living monument to the city's history and sense of community. It is a tribute to Frankfurt's resilience and cultural richness.
