Orpheus und Eurydike (Orphée et Eurydice)

A myth without equal: The legend of the singer Orpheus, whose music reaches the hearts of all living beings, overshadows the man behind the artistic figure. Caught between reality and dream, limelight and loneliness, longing for love and narcissism, we follow Orpheus on his journey to the underworld as he reclaims his beloved Eurydice.

With his "Azione teatrale", Gluck overcomes the traditional opera seria that prevailed in the 18th century and places the music entirely at the service of dramatic expression - away from affect and intrigue and towards an unprecedented truthfulness of the characters and their conflicts. With enchantingly beautiful music, Gluck depicts the journey of a person trying to come to terms with the death of a loved one - and the struggle with inner demons, which can inspire and strengthen on the one hand, and drive into abysmal underworlds on the other.
