Otar's Death

Nika, 16, and his young mother Keti live in a small apartment in a high-rise building in Tbilisi. One evening, Nika runs over an old man called Otar in a village in the countryside. In order to save her son from prison, Keti agrees with the bereaved, Otar's daughter Tamara and her son Oto, to raise a large sum of money.

The linear but skillfully parallel narrative strikes an excellent balance by oscillating back and forth between the fates of the two families. Carried by a gentle and astute irony, Ioseb Bliadze wraps his first feature film in an almost Tatiesque burlesque. With great sensitivity, he describes today's Georgia, which is not only torn between life in the countryside and in the city, but also has to contend with corruption.

Flingern-Lichtspiele

The summer open-air movie theater in Flingern. Every Thursday and Saturday in August, we show a total of eight films on the terrace behind the building. The projections start after dark, admission is from 21:00. Folding chairs and deckchairs are available and there is a bar. If it rains, we will show the films indoors. Free admission - donations are welcome.
