otay:onii, also known as Lane Shi, is an interdisciplinary artist living in Berlin. Born in Haining, China, she lived and worked for some time in New York and elsewhere. The themes she deals with range from humor to the difficult realities that people with a history of migration often face. In her practice, she shares Eastern perspectives with Western socialized audiences to bridge cultural divides. Shi, who is also known as the frontwoman of the post-punk/shoegaze band Elizabeth Color Wheel, works as a solo artist in the fields of music, performance, installation and film composition. She combines various genres, from electronic and ambient to sound collages and noise.

Albums such as NAG (2018), MíngMíng 冥冥 (2021) and Dream Hacker (2023) defy conventional structures and refer to lived experiences. Shi's most recent album True Faith Ain't Blind was released in 2024 by WV Sorcerer Productions. It challenges the established norms of classical and metal music by presenting Shi's stripped down arrangements for acoustic piano and voice. Her performances have been presented at Harvard University, CTM and Roadburn Festival. The work Unwrap!, explores Shi's concept of "bio-instruments" and was shown at Ming Contemporary Art Museum in 2021.
