QUEERHISTORYMONTH
QueerHistoryMonth will take place in Hamburg from May 1 to 31, 2025 (www.queerhistoryhamburg.de). Various events during the festival will bring the history(ies) of the queer community in Hamburg to life. Everyone is welcome - kings, queers, queens, allies, friends, families (of choice) and everyone in between and beyond!
EVENT
The project PAINT IT PRIDE - Color over dark traces makes the scenes of Hamburg's queer history visible with an artistic intervention for Hamburg QueerHistoryMonth.
Black and white photographs of ten significant locations, such as the Dammtor train station, the Pulverfass or the Abaton cinema, are transformed with colorful elements; ten artists reinterpret the locations and create a visual bridge between the dark traces of the past and the colorful queer culture of today.
In the exhibition at the Hotel Reichshof, you can marvel at the 10 large-format original artworks of the Framespotting StreetArt art campaign in their full size. The accompanying texts invite you to immerse yourself in the stories - and give you exciting insights into Hamburg's queer places. Have fun discovering!
A QR code on the picture takes you to the history of the respective place. You can find out more about the places and their queer history via an app.
10 queer-historical places, 10 different artists - together we will make Hamburg's queer history(ies) shine! The artists design half of the black and white photographs individually - just as they imagine a colorful, open and tolerant society.
In a parallel street art campaign, 10 small reprints will be hidden in Hamburg. Find out more here.

PAINT IT PRIDE was initiated in March 2025 by the art project Framespotting, which invites you to discover Hamburg in a new way with alternative street art. On the occasion of Queer History Month, the campaign is not only an artistic statement, but also an impetus to engage with the city's queer history and experience it from a new perspective.
