The Paper Moon Swing Festival is a new swing dance event for the Heidelberg Lindy Hop community, where everyone can get to know the art and culture of swing dancing better and experience it together. In addition to courses for experienced dancers, the festival also offers a beginner's track for curious dance enthusiasts who have never danced Lindy Hop before. There will also be a culture talk with simultaneous translation into German and a film screening to learn more about the culture, history and background of swing dancing. Three evening parties, two of them with live music, also invite you to dance and celebrate together.

This is the first time in many years that a swing dance festival has been held in Heidelberg. International and national dance teachers will come to Heidelberg and share their skills, knowledge and culture of swing dancing with you together with the local Lindy Hop community.

What exactly is Lindy Hop?

Lindy Hop, also known as swing dance, is a Black American dance form that originated in New York in the late 1920s. As part of the African-American diaspora dances, Lindy Hop emerged in a culture characterized by oppression and racism. Both the music and the dance were an expression of resistance against the oppression and discrimination to which black people were and still are subjected. Today, as then, this dance connects people beyond age, ethnicity, gender, language and socio-economic background.
