Every year, the Fantasy Filmfest highlights a small selection of feature films in the program. In addition to the classic slots such as the opening film, which kicks off the festival, and the closing film, which is shown as the last film, the Centerpiece forms the so-called heart of the program. Furthermore, the Director's Spotlight focuses on the work of one director in particular. The Special Slots of the 38th Fantasy Filmfest are SPEAK NO EVIL (Opening Film), MALDOROR ( Centerpiece), PÁRVULOS ( Director's Spotlight for Isaac Ezban) and TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS; WALLED IN (Closing Film).

It's not easy for Salvador to feed everyone's mouths day after day. After all, they have just managed to kill a dog, but often there are only worms on the menu. As the eldest, he is in charge. His younger brother Oliver can be relied on, but Benjamin is still too young to understand the dangers of the new world. He's a real pest who won't be told what to do and won't rest until he sees the noisy monsters in the cellar with his own eyes. The fact that they are mom and dad is of surprisingly little concern to the little one. They are no longer particularly attractive as infected people, but Benjamin is determined to reunite the family. After all, Christmas is just around the corner. A young stranger turns up and events begin to come to a head.

PÁRVULOS is a masterful genre mix of a haunting horror film with a high disgust factor and an equally gripping story about family spirit and love. Mexican director Isaac Ezban (THE SIMILARS, EVIL EYE) takes a creative approach to the subject of the viral catastrophe and allows his audience to discover the complex effects of the apocalypse scene by scene. Who are the hanged people in front of the house, who are the "Trumpetas" that everyone is afraid of, is there a cure? Technically on a high level, from the atmospheric color palette to the stirring soundtrack, the mask effects of the infected in particular are superbly unsavory. Ezban breathes life into them with humor and heart, without it seeming silly. You have to manage that with these half-dead creatures. Felicitaciones and curtain up for this year's Director's Spotlight!

PÁRVULOS is a mix between a haunting, gory horror film and a gripping story about being a family. Mexican director Isaac Ezban (THE SIMILARS, EVIL EYE) takes a creative approach to the virus catastrophe theme: From the atmospheric color palette to the stirring soundtrack and the particularly effective and disgusting make-up effects of the infected. Ezban breathes real life into them with humor and heart, without it seeming silly. What is for sure not easy to achieve.
