Westphalian State Theater Castrop-Rauxel
Philipp Klapproth is an elderly gentleman who regularly drives his family mad with his thirst for adventure. At a meeting in a café in Berlin, he asks his nephew Alfred to organize a visit to a "mental hospital" for him. In his helplessness and distress, Alfred agrees to the café waitress's suggestion that he simply put his uncle up at the Pension Schöller, as the guests there are notorious for their eccentricity. Their quirks and idiosyncrasies exceed all the expectations of the completely enthusiastic Klapproth. However, the euphoria does not last long, as all the guests accept the carelessly extended invitation to visit Klapproth's country estate and cause an unprecedented escalation.
With the premiere of the comedy "Pension Schöller" in 1890, the author duo Wilhelm Jacoby and Carl Laufs landed an unprecedented success in German theater. The play continues to delight audiences to this day and ensures endless gales of laughter in the stalls.
